Hourly to Salary Calculator
Turn an hourly wage into yearly, monthly, biweekly and weekly pay. Change the hours and weeks to match your real schedule.
Gross pay, before taxes. Monthly, semimonthly and biweekly figures spread the yearly total evenly.
How to convert an hourly wage to a salary
Multiply your hourly wage by the hours you work in a week, then by the number of weeks you are paid in a year. Every other pay period is that yearly figure divided evenly.
A standard full-time year is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, or 2,080 paid hours. If you take unpaid time off, lower the paid weeks. Two unpaid weeks means 50 paid weeks, or 2,000 hours.
Worked example: $25 an hour
Say you earn $25 an hour, work 40 hours a week and are paid for all 52 weeks of the year, including paid holidays and vacation.
- Weekly pay: $25 × 40$1,000
- Yearly pay: $1,000 × 52$52,000
- Monthly pay: $52,000 ÷ 12$4,333.33
- Biweekly paycheck: $52,000 ÷ 26$2,000
If the same job gave you two weeks of unpaid leave, you would be paid for 50 weeks: $25 × 40 × 50 = $50,000 a year.
A quick mental shortcut
To estimate a full-time salary in your head, double the hourly wage and add three zeros. $20 an hour becomes about $40,000 a year, and $30 an hour becomes about $60,000.
The shortcut assumes 2,000 hours a year, so it comes out a little low for someone paid for all 52 weeks. At 2,080 hours, $20 an hour is actually $41,600.

Hourly pay and overtime
If you are an hourly, non-exempt employee, the federal Fair Labor Standards Act requires overtime pay of at least one and a half times your regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Some states have stricter rules, such as daily overtime.
This calculator uses one flat rate for every hour. If you regularly work more than 40 hours, use the Overtime Pay Calculator for a more accurate total.
Frequently asked questions
How much is $20 an hour a year?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $20 an hour is $41,600 a year before taxes. That works out to $3,466.67 a month or $1,600 every two weeks.
Is this before or after taxes?
Before. These are gross figures. Your take-home pay will be lower after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, any state or local tax, and deductions such as health insurance or 401(k) contributions.
What is the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay?
Biweekly means every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Semimonthly means twice a month, usually on set dates, which is 24 paychecks a year. The yearly total is the same, but each semimonthly check is a little larger.
How do I calculate pay for a part-time job?
Enter your real weekly hours. Someone earning $18 an hour for 25 hours a week, all year, makes $18 × 25 × 52 = $23,400.
Should I count paid holidays and vacation?
Yes, if you are paid for them. Count every week you receive a paycheck. Only lower the paid weeks for time off that is unpaid.
