Salary to Hourly Calculator
Find the hourly rate behind a yearly salary, plus your monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily pay. Enter the hours you really work to see your true hourly rate.
Gross pay, before taxes. Monthly and paycheck figures divide the full salary evenly.
How to convert a salary to an hourly rate
Work out how many hours your salary pays for in a year, then divide the salary by that number. For most full-time jobs, that is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks.
At 40 hours and 52 weeks, a year has 2,080 paid hours. Some employers use 37.5-hour weeks, which gives 1,950 hours a year and a higher hourly rate for the same salary.
Worked example: $60,000 a year
Say your salary is $60,000, you work 40 hours a week, and you are paid for all 52 weeks, including holidays and vacation.
- Hours per year: 40 × 522,080
- Hourly rate: $60,000 ÷ 2,080$28.85
- Monthly pay: $60,000 ÷ 12$5,000
- Biweekly paycheck: $60,000 ÷ 26$2,307.69
With a 37.5-hour week instead, the same $60,000 works out to $60,000 ÷ 1,950 = $30.77 an hour.
Your real hourly rate if you work longer hours
A salary stays the same no matter how many hours you put in. If you regularly work more than your official schedule, your true hourly rate drops. Enter your real average hours to see it.
For example, $60,000 at 40 hours a week is $28.85 an hour. At 50 hours a week, it is $60,000 ÷ 2,600 = $23.08 an hour, about 20% less.
Salaried employees classified as exempt under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act do not earn overtime. Whether a job is exempt depends on its duties and salary level, so check with your employer or the U.S. Department of Labor if you are unsure.

Frequently asked questions
How much is $50,000 a year per hour?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $50,000 a year is $24.04 an hour before taxes. That is $4,166.67 a month or $1,923.08 every two weeks.
How much is $100,000 a year per hour?
At 2,080 hours a year, $100,000 is $48.08 an hour, $8,333.33 a month and $3,846.15 per biweekly paycheck.
Should I use 52 weeks if I get paid vacation?
Yes. Paid vacation and holidays are still paid weeks, so 52 gives your official hourly rate. To see what you earn for each hour you actually work, enter the weeks you work instead, such as 49 if you take three weeks off.
Is this before or after taxes?
Before. These are gross figures. Take-home pay is lower after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, any state or local tax, and deductions such as health insurance or retirement contributions.
How do I compare a salaried job with an hourly job?
Convert the salary to an hourly rate using the hours you expect to work, then compare it with the hourly offer. Remember that hourly, non-exempt jobs usually pay overtime above 40 hours a week, while exempt salaried jobs do not. Benefits such as health insurance and a 401(k) match matter too.
