What comes out of a Nevada paycheck

Nevada has no state personal income tax, and its cities and counties do not tax wages. The state relies on sales, gaming and business taxes instead. A Nevada paycheck usually has only these taxes withheld:

Tax2026 rateNotes
Federal income tax10% to 37%Based on your taxable income, filing status and Form W-4
Social Security6.2%On wages up to $184,500
Medicare1.45%Plus 0.9% on wages above $200,000
Nevada state income taxNoneNo state or local tax on wages

Nevada’s Modified Business Tax on payroll and its unemployment insurance tax are paid by employers, not withheld from workers, and the state has no disability insurance payroll tax. Pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) contributions and health insurance premiums still come out before you are paid.

Nevada minimum wage take-home pay

Nevada’s minimum wage is $12.00 an hour for all workers in 2026. Nevada does not allow a tip credit, so tipped employees such as servers and bartenders must be paid the full $12.00 an hour before tips.

  1. Full-time at $12.00 (40 hours, 52 weeks)$24,960
  2. Federal income tax (single, standard deduction)$886
  3. Social Security + Medicare$1,909
  4. Take-home pay per year$22,165
  5. Per biweekly paycheck$852.48

That is about $10.66 an hour after taxes. Because Las Vegas and Reno have many tipped hospitality jobs, workers there can also check the federal No Tax on Tips deduction, which can lower federal income tax on qualified tips.

Nevada daily overtime: the rule that changes some paychecks

Nevada is one of the few states with daily overtime. If you earn less than 1.5 times the minimum wage, which is under $18.00 an hour at the $12.00 minimum, you earn time-and-a-half for hours over 8 in any 24-hour period, not just for hours over 40 in a week (Nevada Revised Statutes 608.018).

  1. Hourly wage$15.00
  2. One 10-hour shift: 8 regular hours × $15.00$120.00
  3. 2 overtime hours × $22.50$45.00
  4. Pay for the shift$165.00
  5. Extra pay versus no daily overtime+$15.00

The daily rule does not apply if you earn $18.00 an hour or more, or if you and your employer agree in writing to a schedule of four 10-hour days. Weekly overtime after 40 hours still applies to everyone covered by federal and state law. Our overtime pay calculator can total a full week.

The Nevada Labor Commissioner publishes these rules each year. See the Office of the Labor Commissioner for the current bulletins and how to file a wage claim.
